Zijin Bor Copper tops list of Serbia's 2018 most profitable firms

Zijin Bor Copper, the Serbian unit of China's Zijin Mining Group, was the most profitable company in the country last year, with a net profit of 90.1 billion dinars ($845 million/766.6 million euro), Serbia's Business Registers Agency said.

The company generated 12.1% of the total net profit in the Serbian economy in 2018, the agency said in a statement.

In December, Zijin Mining Group injected $350 million (317.5 million euro) in the capital of Serbian copper mining and smelting company RTB Bor, acquiring majority ownership, and renamed it to Zijin Bor Copper.

The company with the highest operating revenue in 2018, of 264 billion dinars, was state-owned power utility Elektroprivreda Srbije (EPS), which generated 2.5% of the total revenue in the Serbian economy.

Seven state-owned companies are on the list of the top 100 most profitable Serbian firms in 2018, the agency said.

Among the loss-makers, agricultural company Poljoprivredna Korporacija Beograd (PKB) reported the highest loss of 22.7 billion dinars last year. It was followed by state-run toll road operator Putevi Srbije and car dealer Verano-Motors, with a loss of 11.2 billion dinars and 10.2 billion dinars, respectively.
